Our accommodation

We offer a wide range of support services to help families who have children and young people with complex needs

Hope House

Pregnant young women, young families and young people with complex needs live in the eight self contained, fully furnished flats at Hope House in Newton Aycliffe which is staffed 24/7.

In 2019 we opened a mother and baby unit next to Hope House, which can accommodate three placements in individual studio flats and offer 24/7 support.

The site, which also houses the charity’s main office, is dedicated to young people who need more intensive support. Many have been in care at some point in their lives and can have challenges in terms of mental and emotional wellbeing.

It is also where pregnant young people are placed, usually under local authority care orders. It is a setting which gives them the best chance of succeeding and learning parenting skills in partnership with other agencies.

As clients gain confidence and independent living skills, they are able to move into local ROC Solid housing with ongoing support from the charity.

In the grounds we have a Big Lottery funded gardening project, a training kitchen/ICT suite and a Portakabin containing games, exercise equipment etc.

We have excellent feedback from placing agencies and our recordings help social work teams in their decision-making.

Marsh House

Marsh House provides 24/7 support in a positive, safe environment to women at risk of sexual exploitation. Their vulnerabilities include drug and alcohol dependency and mental health issues and many have been in the prison system.

The house has communal living and dining areas and can accommodate seven women in high quality studio rooms.

During the day women engage with partner agencies eg recovery services, probation, social services, and then cook and share an evening meal. This is followed by a range of agreed activities designed to increase emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

All women have individual support plans. ROC Solid support staff facilitate some aspects of this learning eg budgeting, cooking, life skills etc and partner with other local agencies and charities for others eg Power to Change, The 12 Steps Recovery Programme, Celebrate Recovery, literacy, numeracy, computer skills, and psychotherapy counselling.

We can support women at a range of appointments including court, medical and drug rehab and while visiting their families. Importantly, staff provide a listening ear, and sound advice, when they most need it.

Many clients have broken from their past and are now living positive lives in ROC Solid houses, one was overjoyed to have her children returned to her from the care system.

We receive positive feedback from clients and professional agencies and from the women themselves.

We have a range of flats and houses in Newton Aycliffe, Stockton and Billingham. Some clients move straight into them and others move in after spending time in Hope House or Marsh House where there is more intensive support.

All clients have a ROC Solid support worker who can signpost them to other agencies, help with attendance at meetings and appointments etc. The houses are owned by local landlords who want to have a social return on their investment.

ROC Solid has partnered with LandAid, the property industry charity, which aims to help eradicate homelessness for young people.
